When training for performance it is important to think outside the box and a time to get creative and have fun!
What a lot of people don't know is that gyms and weight training as we know it do not benefit the typical athlete. Most people do hypertrophy style training which is designed with one end in mind: to build muscle that looks good. Which is fine if you want to be a body builder. However, this type of training won't necessarily help you improve in your sport. Read on on my article published in Breaking Muscle magazine to find out why.
I would like to share with you all my candid podcast interview with the new host John Evans for Jiu JItsu times. In the interview I discuss my divorce and switching academies. I also discuss the differences in teaching women as opposed to men and also my future plans for women's jiu jitsu. Enjoy!
My first Lifestyle camp is over and I say farewell to all the amazing ladies I have met throughout the week with a tear in my eye. This was the most amazing opportunity for me to be able to do what I love best which is to teach, train and connect with even more awesome women. The camp went smoothly with two training sessions a day, a visit to the Rowdey Rollers event, lots of good healthy food and some outings to some nice sites with nature.
The next event is scheduled for the end of April and start of May and is already booked out but I am certain it will be just as amazing. I love how BJJ connects us all.
I love Asian food because I love the mixture of salty and sweet together. But I find after eating it, I blow up and retain water due to all the salt, sugar, and sauces, and I end up all wired with a huge headache due to the MSG. Most restaurants, even though they may claim not to use MSG, still use some variation of a preservative or flavor enhancer in their food.
If you love Asian flavors, but are craving a cleaner version, here is a recipe that will satisfy the salty and the sweet without the water retention and headaches. I use lean ground turkey, which is low in fat, and I use chili flakes, onion, garlic, and ginger to give it that flavor boost without needing to add a lot of salty sauces.
Check out my recipe that was published in Whole Life Challenge Magazine!
The Pan Am camp is in full swing. Lots of great training, drilling, and learning techniques that work better for women. Ladies have dropped in for all parts of the USA and it is such a pleasure to have the opportunity to be able to train and teach every single one of you! Thank you
Day one of training for the lifestyle camp. Lots of fun and great training.
Day two, we all headed to the Rowdey Rollers event. It was so great to train with so many other women.
The weekend for those attending the lifestyle camp was packed full of training and lots of fun. So far ladies are here from Utah, Chicago, Idaho, Iowa and Australia!. On sunday we headed to the Rowder Rollers event and made the most of training with many other women from different gyms from Las Vegas, Reno, Parump and Arizona! It is so great to be able to connect and train with so many women.
Here is my article about training your abs for that beautiful flat stomach. Most people think that you have to do endless crunches but that is not the case. Crunches only work the rectus abdominals but there are other abdominal muscle groups that need to be worked in order to have that flat shape and a balanced core. Find out more here.
If any of you ladies are interested in doing a Lifestyle Camp late April, start of May please message me. I have had requests to put on another camp but I need a few more ladies to make it happen. The camp will include: accommodation, BJJ training, S&C, stretching and mobility, nutrition with all meals covered, meditation, empowerment and some zen sightseeing.
If you wanna get away, recharge and get to know some other fabulous ladies, this might be perfect for you. Please email me sophiadrysdalefitness@gmail.com for details.
