Self defense seminars, empowering for all!

Everyone practicing creating space while on the ground

Everyone practicing creating space while on the ground

I have been teaching a lot of self defense workshops lately and what is so great about this is that more and more people are wanting to empower themselves with essential skills to stay safe. But also more corporate companies are wanting to provide this knowledge to their employees for a safer work place.

Just last week I did a demonstration at the MGMGrand ballroom for 350 people who had never seen anything like this before followed by a workshop to another group at Browns Gymnastics in LV. It is so empowering to be building awareness and know that I can share with everyone the tools to stay safe and hopefully diffuse a possible situation.

I guide the class through specific techniques both standing up and on the ground, basic safety precautions and I and discuss the phycological aspects of self defense such as speaking up and trusting your intuition.

For those who would like to attend any of my up and coming self defense courses or to learn more about my FightingFIT program, feel free to email me at sophia@sophiaFIT.com and take a look here:

I have a couple of stops in Chicago at the end of this month and my 2nd stop is at Serafin BJJ Academy, Evanston in Chicago. I love teaching women’s workshops since it opens things up to explore the techniques that work much better for women but also to touch on topics about being a women in BJJ.

My 7 Day Meal Plan - Spring into Summer is ready!!!

sophia mcdermott drysdale fit

My new e book, 7 Day Meal Plan - Spring into Summer is ready!!! I am really happy to share with you all the recipes that I enjoy year round. The book is loaded with yummy meals and snacks for you to use for 7 days as a cleanse, detox and boost as well as a guide for future use.

One of the biggest reasons people fail with diets is because they don't eat enough and they are also stuck eating the same boring food every day. There is only so many days in a row one might be able to eat bland chicken breast and steamed broccoli. My meals and recipes are different, delicious, full of variety and goodness. I tweak normal recipes and make them healthy- making sure they still taste just as good. I change the way some recipes are cooked and exchange some ingredients for healthier options that are whole, unprocessed, free of trans fats or heavy saturated fats, refined flours, sugars, chemicals and preservatives.

For those who don't compete these skills can be used for other goals you may be striving for. So we will be covering goal setting strategies as well as meditation and yoga to eliminate stress. Sheila Kennedy from The Athletes Sports Bag Featured Athletes has provided the meditation which is such a blessing. Get out and get some sunlight!

Sophia McDermott Drysdale

There are so many aspects to health. We need to fuel our bodies properly for optimal health and we need to move it every day - whether it be on the mat in BJJ class or going for a brisk walk. But  one factor that is often  overlooked is the amount of time we spend outside in the fresh air getting our daily dose of vitamin D. Vitamin D is considered by some to be the most important vitamin out there. It is responsible for so many things including the regulation of other minerals such as calcium, magnesium and phosphorus which are essential for strong bones among other things. Vitamin D has also been shown to help regulate blood glucose levels (good for insulin management) and it is good for mental health. Regardless, getting sunlight is essential for mental health. So even though it is still cold in some places, try your best to get out and get at least 15 minutes per day of natural sunlight to enjoy the myriad of benefits.

Sophia McDermott Drysdale FIT

THis past weekend I had 3 seminars in Colorado. I taught initially at Colorado Springs at CSBJJ on the Saturday and then the following day was a crazy day with a seminar at Rocky Mountain BJJ and another one at Katharo Training Center. My focus for all the seminars was passing and movement from  on top. I am so blessed to be able to meet so many amazing people on my BJJ travels.
