Last Women's Class For the Year!

I love teaching!

I love teaching!

Today was my  last women's class for the year. I absolutely love teaching and being able to pass on all the techniques that have taken me years to learn and figure out. I hope next year will be an even bigger year with more and more women joining gyms and falling in love with Jiu JItsu.

Christmas turkey leftovers to turkey pot pie

I made a turkey pot pie with the left over Christmas turkey. Tastes even better on the second day! Here is the recipe!

Turkey pot pie

Turkey pot pie

2 pounds turkey breast
4 cups chicken stock
3 thyme sprigs
4 parsley sprigs
3 black peppercorns
2 large (or 3 medium) potatoes, peeled and roughly chopped
2 large carrots chopped
½ cup frozen peas, thawed
1 large leek, finley sliced
1 shallot, finely sliced
1 cup of thick cream
5 tbls flour
½ cup of white wine
¼ cup of chopped parsley
3 tbls butter
2 – 3 sheets of pastry

Place turkey in saucepan and cover with stock. Add the parsley, thyme, peppercorns. Let the turkey and broth simmer for 10 minutes or until turkey is fully heated through.

Transfer turkey to a plate and chop into pieces. Remove herbs and peppercorns from broth and add potato and carrots and cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes.

Butter a large baking dish and add bottom layer of pastry. Then add turkey, cooked potato, carrots and peas to baking dish.

Remove broth from saucepan and strain. In same saucepan add the butter. Once melted add leeks and shallots and cook until soft. Add flour and stir in broth and white wine. Bring to boil and allow to thicken. Add chopped parsley, salt and pepper to season. Then pour leek sauce onto the vegetables and turkey in the baking dish.

To finish add the top layer of pastry and seal bottom and top ends together. Poke a few fork holes on the top of pastry to let breath.

Pre heat oven to 400 F. Cook pie for about 1 hour until crust is darkened and sauce is bubbling through. Let cook for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!

Awesome Training with Fellow Black Belt at Legion

My next stop in Perth was at Legion 13. I taught an all female seminar to the most amazing bunch of ladies. We covered my favourite knee slide technique to some leg bar and toe hold combinations. I was lucky enough to do some training with the ladies including fellow black belt Joanne Masielo. It is always an honour to train with other black belts. Especially Aussie home grown ones!

According to the World Health Organization, the worldwide obesity rate has more than doubled since 1980. In 2014, 39 percent of adults over the age of eighteen were overweight, and 13 percent were obese.1 This is a scary statistic - almost half the world's population are overweight.

It’s no wonder so many people always seem to be on a diet of some sort. However, diets are part of the problem. Understanding the right way to eat is the key to avoid diets and all the negative aspects that go along with them. For athletes, understanding the powerful effects food has on the body can help you reach your sport-specific goals without dangerously cutting calories.

This is an excerpt of an article I wrote for the launch  of the Australian Breaking Muscle magazine. In the article I discuss my journey of training for my respective sports and the my eating plans to achieve my desired goals. Read on if you want to know how I ate for optimum performance and to be stage show ready.

The Arena MMA, a great bunch!

My first stop in Perth was at The Arena MMA. I had the pleasure of teaching this awesome group of people a couple or workshops as well as a seminar. The ladies group was really strong too with role models such as Crystal and Cara to pave the way for the yonger ones.

Thank you Keith and Taff for making this possible!
