Welcomed with open arms at Cobrinha Las Vegas headquarters

If you have seen some of the other posts most of you have figured out that I am no longer at Drysdale JJ. Although it was initially heart breaking since I put everything I had into building and running that gym for so long, and I will miss a bunch of people, my leaving was a necessity for my own peace of mind and happiness. I am now training at Cobrinha Las Vegas headquarters and I have been welcomed with open arms. Hector and Helen are 100% supportive me and everything to do with women's Jiu jitsu. At the end of the day it doesn't matter where you train or what team you represent because we are all here for the same reason, and that is for the love of Jiu jitsu. I have met some of the most incredible people all around the world and built life long friendships through Jiu jitsu and I look forward to this continued journey and what 2016 will bring.

Men's Magazine, FitLife featured lady!

FitLife Magazine is a recently launched men's magazine that is dedicated to health and fitness. The mag covers really informative, real life stuff. I was chosen as the featured lady in the 'Ladies First' section and in the interview I discuss my recent Australian tour and my projects moving forward with women's BJJ, health and fitness.
The readers want to see women in the fitness industry who aren't doing the bimbo thing and who are making a difference. So I am really honoured that I was chosen!!!
Thank you Terry Googlad and Ana Tigre for the makeup and article.

Rowder Rollers

Rowdey Rollers was a huge success. Ladies from all over Las Vegas and even Arizona turned up to roll and meet new people. I saw some old faces and met some new ones. We are all here for the same reasons- to support each other and to have fun. Thank you Mylene Engle and Ronda for putting this event on.

No diet, it's a way of life

If your New Year's resolution is to get in the best shape of your life, remember that it is a lifestyle thing and not a 'I am going to diet for 2 months' thing. The only way to getting in great shape and staying that way is consistency and making healthy eating a integral part of your life.

Transverse abdominal exercises for everyone. Beginner, advanced and new mothers!

Transverse abdominal exercises for everyone. Beginner, advanced and new mothers!

I recently wrote an article for Whole Life Challenge magazine which is all about training your transverse abs for a flat tummy. Your transverse abs are the muscles you use to suck your tummy in! Here are some good exercises you can do to train your inner corset.

These exercises are ideal for new mum's also. You can start with the more basic, Angry Cat, Happy cat exercises and work your way to the more challenging plant hold exercises.

Last Women's Class For the Year!

I love teaching!

I love teaching!

Today was my  last women's class for the year. I absolutely love teaching and being able to pass on all the techniques that have taken me years to learn and figure out. I hope next year will be an even bigger year with more and more women joining gyms and falling in love with Jiu JItsu.

Christmas turkey leftovers to turkey pot pie

I made a turkey pot pie with the left over Christmas turkey. Tastes even better on the second day! Here is the recipe!

Turkey pot pie

Turkey pot pie

2 pounds turkey breast
4 cups chicken stock
3 thyme sprigs
4 parsley sprigs
3 black peppercorns
2 large (or 3 medium) potatoes, peeled and roughly chopped
2 large carrots chopped
½ cup frozen peas, thawed
1 large leek, finley sliced
1 shallot, finely sliced
1 cup of thick cream
5 tbls flour
½ cup of white wine
¼ cup of chopped parsley
3 tbls butter
2 – 3 sheets of pastry

Place turkey in saucepan and cover with stock. Add the parsley, thyme, peppercorns. Let the turkey and broth simmer for 10 minutes or until turkey is fully heated through.

Transfer turkey to a plate and chop into pieces. Remove herbs and peppercorns from broth and add potato and carrots and cook on medium heat for about 10 minutes.

Butter a large baking dish and add bottom layer of pastry. Then add turkey, cooked potato, carrots and peas to baking dish.

Remove broth from saucepan and strain. In same saucepan add the butter. Once melted add leeks and shallots and cook until soft. Add flour and stir in broth and white wine. Bring to boil and allow to thicken. Add chopped parsley, salt and pepper to season. Then pour leek sauce onto the vegetables and turkey in the baking dish.

To finish add the top layer of pastry and seal bottom and top ends together. Poke a few fork holes on the top of pastry to let breath.

Pre heat oven to 400 F. Cook pie for about 1 hour until crust is darkened and sauce is bubbling through. Let cook for about 10 minutes before serving. Enjoy!
