In order to feel, look and be the best you can be involves a number of factors and not just one thing.
I have been travelling a lot lately and have not been able to carry out my usual routine. I realised that to look, feel and be your best many different factors come into play. It is not just about eating clean or squeezing in a workout, it is about creating a lifestyle that allows all your body and mind to thrive. Sleep, diet, exercise and time out to de-stress such a meditation session are all equally as important. Just one element such as eating clean is not going to make you healthy if you are stressed all the time or if you don't have time to exercise. as Having a lifestyle that enables you to achieve all the elements creates a healthy mind and body and allows you to feel, look and be the best that you can be.
This salad is perfect for warm Spring or Summer evenings and can easily be paired with chicken or salmon.
For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, spring is officially here. Things are warming up and we get to enjoy delicious summer fruits and lighter meals again. Here is a recipe that incorporates my favorite summer fruit – mangoes – in a light, refreshing, and healthy salsa. This fruity salad is ideal for a warm spring or summer lunch and also works as a dinner when paired with grilled chicken or a piece of pan-seared salmon.
Last weekend I went to Canada to teach a seminar. I was very honoured to be hosted by Rollers Of The World which is an organisation that prides themselves on politics free training. It was so nice to see some familiar faces and some new faces. The focus was on spider guard techniques with some sneaky finishes such as a leg lock and a toe hold.
I had the opportunity to see some of Ottawa and Montreal. Canada is beautiful with loads of culture and I really look forward to visiting again sometime soon.
I want to say a big thank you to those who purchased my Nutrition e book during the Spring sale. I hope that it informs and inspires you to take a step in the right direction to look at feel your best.
This past week have been amazing with the second Lifestyle Camp taking place. Once again I am blessed to have met the most amazing women who have so much to teach us all, so much to learn and are here to focus on themselves and experience all the amazing things that the BJJ lifestyle has to offer.
The ladies had a chance to train hard with two sessions a day but also to pamper themselves. There was time to chill out on the sundeck and read a good book and also to go get a pedicure!!! Being tough and strong doesn't mean you can't be girly and beautiful!
On the Sunday I took the ladies to the 3rd Rowdey Roller's event that was held at Cobrinha's academy Las Vegas. There were well over 60 women of all ages, levels and from all parts of Vegas as well as Arizona and California. This was a great opportunity for the girls who don't necessarily get the chance to roll with women.
And finally, the ladies enjoyed lots of healthy fresh home made food including salads, vegetables, lean protein and good sources of carbs to refuel.
It was such a great experience and I am looking forward to hosting another camp. I am thinking of putting on my next camp July 9th. Feel free to email me, sophiadrysdalefitness@gmail.com for any enquiries!
I am so excited that the ladies of my next Lifestyle camp are arriving tomorrow. We are going to have a lot of fun, learn some great jiu jitsu, eat yummy healthy food and build lifelong friendships.
Here is a tasty light dinner that is perfect for those warmer nights. The salmon is packed with protein and good fats such as Omega 3 and the salad has carbs derived from fruit and vegetables sources. I prefer not to eat grains at night and to keep things light before i go to bed.
Ingredients: For the salmon:
coconut oil for cooking 0.6 - 0.8 pounds of salmon fillet Salt and pepper 1 tsp maple syrup Juice from 1/3 of a lemon For the salad: 1/2 cup of chopped bell pepper 1 avocado, chopped 1 cup chopped pineapple 1 1/2 cups of arugula leaves 1/4 cup chopped cilantro 1/2 tsp chilli flakes For the dressing: 1 tbsp olive oil 1 tbsp white vinegar 1 tsp maple syrup Juice of half a lime Salt and pepper to taste
Method: Season the salmon with salt and pepper on both sides. Add to pan lightly coated with coconut oil and cook on low to medium for 5-8 minutes on both sides depending on how well done you like your salmon. Once the salmon is almost cooked drizzle the maple syrup and squeeze of lemon juice and let cook for one more minute. For the salad, add all ingredients to a mixing bowl.
